Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, the message may be retained to prepare and track a response. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive standard technical information when a page loads:
- Page-view dates and times
- Your device type and operating system
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Your browser type and version
- The pages viewed and the time spent on them
- The IP address assigned to the device
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They help analytics services combine traffic information, such as which pages receive visits and where sessions end. You can block cookies through browser settings, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Route a search request to the provider that handles it
- Diagnose errors and other technical problems
- Operate, secure, and improve site performance
- Measure which pages readers use
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Garfield County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its general reference material identifies records held by GCSO, the Garfield courts, the Washington State Patrol Criminal Records Division, and the Washington State Sex Offender Information Center. We do not assemble visitor data into consumer reports or third-party criminal histories and are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by the selected provider's privacy policy. We do not control a provider's retention, disclosure, or processing rules, so review those terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Garfield County offices, Washington agencies, courts, legal-aid resources, or third-party tools. Once you leave this website, the destination's policy controls its collection and use of information.
Advertising providers may also use their own systems to track activity across websites for targeted advertising. Review a destination's practices before providing personal details.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:
- Advertising networks that serve content on these pages
- Search providers that process a submitted query
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for the information we collect. No internet service can guarantee complete security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor's data is identified, a deletion request may be submitted.
Your Data Rights
Washington's Consumer Protection Act, chapter 19.86 RCW, and other laws that apply where you live may provide additional rights. The Washington Public Records Act and Criminal Records Privacy Act govern agency records, not this private site's visitor analytics. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Opt out of certain forms of processing
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Ask for access to personal information held about you
- Request deletion where the law provides that right
